Can’t Keep up with the Buzz!

Hey, all!

Sam here!

We can’t tell if we’re coming or going or if we’re meeting ourselves coming AND going this week!

On Tuesday, I had Leadership Camden County (blog forthcoming if I can find time to sit down and write it!) and, while that was a blast and highly educational, we are once again gearing up for the upcoming Mass Vaccination Event with the Missouri National Guard! This is the event which was scheduled for February 14/15 and will now take place on March 7/8.

Here’s the deal: With the mass vaccination event taking place at the School of the Osage on March 7 and 8, Hwy 42 is going to be jam packed. If you can avoid that road AT ALL during the event, I would highly suggest it.

Yesterday, Mike from GIS was nice enough to come out and letter our door for us! Thanks, Mike!

Today, we got our federally required monthly test for IPAWS through Nixle done. We are working on updating the back end of Nixle so we can easily communicate warnings, closures, and emergency information with county employees. We will also be setting up numerous other emergency contact groups for the cities and more.

Members of the public can receive emergency alerts, too! Visit our Nixle page to find out more and sign up!

Every Thursday, we complete a conference call with the CCHD, LRHS, EMA, first responder agencies, private sector, and more to keep everyone updated on the COVID-19/vaccine information for our county. You can find notes from the call on our COVID-19 page.

This week, Camden County Auditor Jimmy Laughlin also presented us with a breakdown of where the CARES money went and what the county used the funds for in a set of pdfs you can find on the COVID-19 page.

And it’s only THURSDAY! PHEW.

Our CERT members will be at the Lake Expo on Friday and Saturday, so be sure to stop and say HI!!!

PS-Buzzer will be at the Mass Vaccination Event on March 7 and 8 with us!

I became the Director of Camden County, MO Emergency Management Agency (EMA) in August 2021 after previously serving as the agency's Deputy Director for a year. As the Director, I manage the day-to-day operations of the EMA, work on the Local Emergency Operations Plan, manage the Facebook, Twitter, and website for the EMA, oversee the webpages for the Camden County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), provide oversight and run exercises for the Camden County, MO Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and work with the Camden County, MO Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES). I hold a general class amateur radio license, call sign KE0LMY. I am also the official "Bee Keeper" of our mascot, Buzzer the Bee, who wants you to BEE Prepared!!! I'm a certified CERT trainer and WebEOC trainer for the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency. I maintain an EXTENSIVE and ever-growing list of credentials and train vigorously with first responder agencies, other EMAs, and with anyone I believe will help me become a better, more well-rounded emergency management director.

  1. Sam I tried to stop by the other day to pick up some masks, but everybody was out of the office. Is anybody going to be there tomorrow, Friday?Joan MichaelreeSent via the Samsung Galaxy S9, an AT&T 5G Evolution capable smartphone
