Magic Dragon Street Meet Fun!

Greetings, all!

EMA Deputy Director Sam Henley here!

We had a blast at this past weekend’s 2021 Magic Dragon Street Meet! After 12 trips up and down about 1/2 mile of the strip, I was one exhausted lady! Uphill was DEFINITELY harder than downhill! I was in luck though, because many of our CERTs in their neon gear were patrolling the strip, ready to offer aid wherever needed. More about their experience will be linked here (when it’s available).

It was a tremendously enjoyable Saturday, with some of the most beautifully restored cars, trucks, motorcycles, and even some FRANKENCARS!!!

I know which one was my pick for “Best in Show” (though it was probably different from the official judges choice!):

My primary concern as the EMA’s representative at these functions is to keep an eye out on “our people”, which include our CERTs, first responders, and anyone else who needs help!

There was only one medical emergency while I was there for my shift and I have to commend the quick reaction and response of our CERTs for alerting EMS and bringing them to the scene. Everyone performed professionally and the situation was quickly resolved! Thank you to Lake Ozark Fire and EMS for their response!

We continue to strive to provide transparency and access of the EMA to the public and our partners in the community, and hey, if we get some enjoyment while we’re serving you, YAY! Make sure you say hi to us if you see us at an event. Director Rod Sederwall and I are always happy to stop and talk about what an EMA is and what service we provide in the event that first responders are overwhelmed! See you at the next one!

I became the Director of Camden County, MO Emergency Management Agency (EMA) in August 2021 after previously serving as the agency's Deputy Director for a year. As the Director, I manage the day-to-day operations of the EMA, work on the Local Emergency Operations Plan, manage the Facebook, Twitter, and website for the EMA, oversee the webpages for the Camden County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), provide oversight and run exercises for the Camden County, MO Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and work with the Camden County, MO Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES). I hold a general class amateur radio license, call sign KE0LMY. I am also the official "Bee Keeper" of our mascot, Buzzer the Bee, who wants you to BEE Prepared!!! I'm a certified CERT trainer and WebEOC trainer for the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency. I maintain an EXTENSIVE and ever-growing list of credentials and train vigorously with first responder agencies, other EMAs, and with anyone I believe will help me become a better, more well-rounded emergency management director.
