A message from Director Rod Sederwall:
I have spent the last 7 months as the Director of Camden County EMA. It has truly opened my eyes to a new world of First Responders. Not in the immediate response to the scene as I have done for the last 41 years but as one who gets those “Boots on the Ground” the tools and manpower they need to do the job in a large scale emergency. What can be done and the the speed it can be done in was an eye opener in itself. Spending time on the phone with SEMA, FEMA and also Homeland Security in Washington D.C. is something I never thought I would be doing. If the fire departments, law enforcement and EMS would learn to lean on EMA they will find that we can do things they can’t. If you as citizens do not know or understand what the EMA does you should learn. It is explained on our website. I would like to thank the Camden County Commissioners for the opportunity of serving the people of this county. The commissioners as well as all the people of the courthouse have been a true blessing to work with. I am leaving because after being retired for 10 1/2 years going back to work was not working for me. I will be 67 next week and I feel it is time for younger people to do this job. Sam Henley will make an excellent director. She is extremely knowledgeable in the field of Emergency Management. God forbid, but if ever there is a large scale event in this county EMA will be in excellent hands. Sam I thank you for all you have done for me and teaching me as much as you did. Congratulations on your new position.
