EMA Completes Another Severe Weather Preparedness Walkthrough!

2022 is starting off with some REALLY fantastic public outreach efforts and we have received invitations from local businesses to help them with severe weather preparedness for their employees, homeowners, and customers!

Today, Director Sam Henley met with Della Miller, owner of Missouri Association Management, LLC, which manages 10 properties in Camden and Miller Counties.

Della reached out to our office indicating she was interested in helping condo owners become more prepared for severe weather and other emergencies.

Today’s meeting took place at the Indian Pointe Condominiums, where Della and Sam discussed an overall plan, then proceeded with a walkthrough to determine some actionable items for the Indian Pointe Condos specifically.

Even BEGINNING this process can be overwhelming. It is not a “quickly achieved” goal and is better approached in more of a “milestone” way. Sam made a few easily achievable recommendations to get the ball rolling, including the placement of NOAA weather radios in public areas, getting people to sign up for emergency alerts through the county’s mass notification system (text 65020 to 888777), placing AEDs in public gathering areas and encouraging training on CPR/AED/First Aid, free Community Emergency Response Team training, and more.

HERE is something EVERYONE can do to begin their emergency preparedness journey: MAKE A PLAN! Visit our partners at ready.gov for printable plans you can fill out!

We want to thank Della and Missouri Association Management, LLC for inviting us to a seat at their table while they embark on their emergency preparedness journey for their residents and visitors! Partnerships like these GREATLY help to mitigate large-scale emergencies!

I became the Director of Camden County, MO Emergency Management Agency (EMA) in August 2021 after previously serving as the agency's Deputy Director for a year. As the Director, I manage the day-to-day operations of the EMA, work on the Local Emergency Operations Plan, manage the Facebook, Twitter, and website for the EMA, oversee the webpages for the Camden County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), provide oversight and run exercises for the Camden County, MO Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and work with the Camden County, MO Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES). I hold a general class amateur radio license, call sign KE0LMY. I am also the official "Bee Keeper" of our mascot, Buzzer the Bee, who wants you to BEE Prepared!!! I'm a certified CERT trainer and WebEOC trainer for the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency. I maintain an EXTENSIVE and ever-growing list of credentials and train vigorously with first responder agencies, other EMAs, and with anyone I believe will help me become a better, more well-rounded emergency management director.
